| LA
RONCAIA
La
Roncais is an Italian winery, situated in
Friuli, and crated to make wine to the highest
standards, in the best local tradition. Our
premium quality wines are unique, territory-specific
and destined for the palates of the world’s
most discriminating wine-lovers. The estate
can call on the experience of three generations
of Friulian winemakers and a local oenological
heritage that respects tradition while looking
to the future.
Just
twenty-two hectares of superb vineyards set
in the gentle hills of the Colli Orientali
del Friuli, one of Italy’s most prestigious
DOC zones, produced La Roncaia’s rare
and much admired wines. Our overriding principal
is the unhurried pursuit of quality, not
quantity.
Today,
La Roncaia is a model winery, making viticultural
masterpieces for knowledgeable public.

| THE
VINEYARDS
The vineyards of La Roncaia
are crucially important. It is here, in the
Colli Orientali del Friuli near Nimis, Ramandolo
and Attimis, that the vocation of the territory
and the skill of the grower meet with stunning
results. It is in the vineyards that the
quality of the wine is decided, above all
by insisting on low yields per hectare, obtained
by rigorous thinning on flowering and again
when the fruit colors, so that the best of
the wine is concentrated in a few, magnificent
bunches.
We have selected nine varieties
that find ideal conditions for producing
first-quality fruit at La Roncaia. They are
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Cabernet France, Merlot, Jazzelenghe, Chardonnay,
Sauvignon Blanc, and of course Ramandolo
and Picolit. The plants are the result of
long, accurate clonal selection and careful,
even loving, vineyard management. We are
truly proud of the results our commitment
has obtained.

| THE
CELLARS
Close to the vineyards, at
Gerney near Nimis, are the La Roncaia cellars.
A secret place with an air of magic, the
cellar is where age-old techniques and modern
technology marry to make wines of quality.
Winemaking here is a calm, carefully pondered
activity and excellence is the only goal.
The fruit, painstakingly selected from the
moment it is harvested, ferments in temperature-controlled
vats of French oak, macerating very slowly,
so that every aroma, every fragrance and
every flavour-enhancing element is extracted.
Here, the wine ages in the Cellars while
five hundred oak barriques enhance their
body with delicious wood derived aromas.
The entire process is executed
with precision and indeed, an almost religious
reverence. For quality is born in the vineyard
but raised in the cellars.

| WHERE
WE ARE
La Roncaia lies in the hill
country in the north-west sector of the Golli
Orientali del Friuili DOC zone, one of Italy’s
foremost territories for the production of
characterful reds, elegant whites aand rare
gems such as the much sought-after Ramandolo
and Picolit dessert wines. At La Roncaia,
the winemaking heritage has ancient roots,
nurtured over the years with skill and sagacity
.
The estate’s vineyards
lie around Nimis, Attimis and Ramandolo,
three villages in the neat hills of Friuli
that were formed at least three hundred and
fifty millions years ago, when the plains
of Friuli lay under the sea and the Alps
rose up fro the shore. Over the millennia,
layers of detritus, sand and clay gathered,
forming the gentlyrolling hills when the
sea withdrew. Sandstone alternates with marl,
deposits of calacareous clay also known as
ponca, to create ideal terrain for the cultivation
of the grapeand the climate, too, is perferct,
ventialated by southern breezes and protected
to the north by the Alps. It is here that
the object of our passion – the La
Roncaia wines–are laid out in neat
rows.

| OUR
PHILOSOPHY
There is only one guiding principle
at La Roncaia – quality. From clonal
selection, to the patient tending of the
plants, the rigorously manual harvest and
careful vinification of the fruit, every
facet of wine making activity aims to the
achieve perfection. The economic implications
of this approach are secondary. At La Ronncaia,
it is results that count. That is the philosophy
driving the estate and the wine makers who
now offer you the fruits of their labors.
Leading the group is the Hungarian oenologist,
Fibor Gal, an influential authority in the
contemporary world of wine. After 10 years
in Juscany, he is now inspiring the successes
of the team at La Roncaia. Passion comes
from people, and the land is their ally.
